In order to improve the efficiency of patent applications, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has strongly encouraged applicants to file patent applications in DOCX format, and has repeatedly changed the additional official fees imposed on non-DOCX application documents. According to the USPTO's latest regulations published in the Federal Register on March 27, 2023, the additional official fees for non-DOCX application documents, which were originally scheduled to take effect on April 3, 2023, will again be delayed until June 30, 2023. Further delays will give applicants more time to adjust and adapt to the filing of Patent applications in DOCX format, and applicants can test their submissions through the Patent Center training mode to familiarize themselves with filing in DOCX format.
