Introduction to the Hague System
The Hague System is a special agreement on the international design system, through which an international application can be submitted to obtain industrial design patent protection in up to 96 countries. Moreover, international applications based on the Hague system can be centrally managed through the International Intellectual Property Office (WIPO), especially the annual fee payment, which does not need to be paid on a country-by-country basis, greatly reducing the cost of administration and manual monitoring, and reducing the error rate.

Duration of protection
The initial protection period for designs under the Hague system is 5 years and can be renewed twice, ensuring a minimum protection period of 15 years. If the designated country allows a longer period of protection, it may also continue to renew, but not beyond the maximum period of protection in that designated country. For example, the maximum period of protection allowed in the European Union (one of the Contracting Parties) is 25 years, which means that if your design is designated in the European Union, it can be renewed for up to 25 years. Renewal must be handled within six months before the expiration, if no renewal application is submitted within six months, there is a grace period of six months (additional make-up fees are required), in addition, the application for the designation of the United States of America must pay a separate designation fee, paid in two parts, the payment of the second part of the fee is the default protection of 15 years, and the subsequent renewal is not required.
